IN OUR COMMUNITY
At Macquarie University Hospital we are in the business of good health. We believe it is important to make a long-term positive difference in the lives of our staff, doctors, patients and broader community in which we exist. That is why we are committed to being actively and meaningfully involved in the causes that affect our hospital community and the communities in which we operate.
Movember at MUH
A team of amazing mo-bros from MUH raised more than $4370 for the Movember Foundation. These mighty fine moustaches were shorn off at the Movember Barber Shop BBQ on Friday 28 November, where an additional $1300 was raised. Special thanks should be extended to Ken Gomez, Ravi Sharma, Sergio Duque, Joe Grech, Stephen Grover and Brad Gannon for getting behind this initiative and helping MUH and its partner organisations raised over $5670.
MUH hosted its inaugural Market Day on Saturday September 13, 2014. There was a fantastic ambience with stall holders selling a myriad of goods including fresh flowers, cakes, fruit and vegetables, preloved clothing, books, arts and crafts and bric-a-brac. Children were entertained by our balloon twister and face painters while shoppers enjoyed a delicious BBQ and gelato. Proceeds went to Macquarie University MND Research.
Giving the Community a Little Imagination!
On Wednesday 13 August 2014, MUH was delighted to be part of a wonderful community initiative to promote literacy in under 5 year olds. United Way Australia supports Dolly Parton’s Imagination Library which encourages parents to read to their pre-school children. Children are registered at local events and are mailed a new book every month until they reach the age of 5. MUH staff volunteered to help at a recent event at West Ryde.
