An exciting opportunity exists for a highly motivated person with relevant experience to manage and coordinate Theatre lists/allocation. The successful applicant will be an enthusiastic and self-motivated leader to fill this challenging role. The role will suit a senior administrator or a nurse with perioperative experience and strengths in administration and organisation.
The Theatre Scheduler will collaborate with Clinical and non-Clinical staff to achieve the optimal utilisation of perioperative services, and be responsible for the effective and efficient management of the MUH utilisation of theatre sessions. Working closely with the Perioperative Service Team they will ensure the smooth running of the Operating Theatres as well as the Sterilising Services Unit, and the Anaesthetics and Recovery Unit. They will also ensure careful and precise monitoring of information regarding all surgical bookings to operating lists to ensure that the MUH policies and KPI targets are achieved.
The Theatre Scheduler works collaboratively with the Perioperative Nurse Manager and the MUH Executive to ensure surgical activity (planned and emergency) is aligned with strategic objectives. The Theatre Scheduler will work collaboratively within the multidisciplinary team to manage the allocated operating sessions and the process of effectively allocating patients to the appropriate specialty sessions, liaising closely with the Nurse Manager Perioperative Services. The Nurse Manager reviews surgical bookings and emergency requirements, liaising with when required with the Director of Medical Services and Chief Executive, to ensure best utilisation and efficiency of allocated operating and emergency lists and the organisational resources.
- Demonstrated experience scheduling and allocating theatres, or a thorough understanding or patient flow in a perioperative setting
- Proven ability to take initiative in problem solving and conflict resolution
- Demonstrated stakeholder management skills
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and interact with both clinical and operational teams as well as Accredited Practitioners at all levels
- Ability to operate with limited guidance and to make a significant contribution to the operationalisation of strategy
- Demonstrated analytical and report writing skills
